ARC202 Architectural Design II - Site Visit

The design problem for ARC202 is a Social Center in an urban setting. Social Center will be designed as a "multifunctional" and "flexible solidarity place", where basic needs such as shelter, food, education, and health can be ensured. The center; while fostering an environment for innovative thinking, will also serve as a cultural hub for the community, providing meeting, exhibition, and workshop spaces that are open to the general public. The center should also be adaptable according to possible crisis situations (i.e., it can serve as a post-disaster assembly, provide a "public kitchen," or provide a temporary shelter to the community).  Within the scope of the project, a technical trip was organized on 08.10.2024, Tuesday with the instructor of the course Associate Professor İlke Ciritci and students who chose the course, on Tersane Street and the Golden Horn shore. Over the given area, the students chose their own parcels to work on and analyzed them. At the same time, discussions were held with students on ‘Gentrification / Participatory Planning / Flexibility / Diversity / Sustainability / Accessibility / Transparency / Open Plan / Low Cost BUT High Design Quality / Permanent & Temporary Structures / Coexistence / Cohabitation / Flaneur Walk ‘ concepts.
