"World Architecture Day, which was first celebrated in 1985 by the International Union of Architects (UIA) in parallel with the United Nations Habitat Day, aims to bring architecture, the problems in our cities and living spaces to the public agenda, and to raise awareness with various activities within the scope of a different theme every year.
World Architecture Day will be celebrated this year by more than one million architects in more than a hundred countries, members of the International Union of Architects, with the theme of 'Architecture for Well-being' on October 3, 2022.
Protection of the right to live in a healthy and safe environment; creation of living spaces shaped by planning and qualified architectural services in accordance with the principles of science and urbanism; The production of the built environment within the framework of healthy and public benefit policies is the common responsibility of the public administration, central and local governments, professionals, professional organizations and all relevant sectors.
All over the world and in our country, the future of humanity, the built, natural and cultural environment is under threat due to climate change, environmental problems, war and conflict, exploitation, hunger, poverty, inequality and discrimination. Throughout the world, living spaces are rapidly disappearing due to unhealthy urbanization, environmental problems, disasters, wars, etc., and the number of those who have to migrate is increasing rapidly.
After the Covid-19 epidemic, which was effective all over the world, the UIA General Assembly declared 2022 as the 'UIA Year of Design for Health' and called on all member countries, architects and the professional environment to prioritize public health in the production of the built environment and to benefit from the design approach that considers the public interest.
The effects of the processes in which epidemics and disasters affecting our country and the whole world are increasing, and the social and political crisis conditions are getting worse with the economic crisis, have been seen the most in our big cities where intensive construction and construction planned for the purpose of rent are given priority. Intense construction conditions made it almost impossible to implement the measures to be taken, and it has been revealed that 'planning and architecture' practices, which have become a component of capital and consumption-oriented policies in every aspect from design to implementation, pose significant threats to the health of the society.
We celebrate the World Architecture Day of our colleagues and our society with the hope of a future where all segments of the society have access to qualified architecture and planning services, and welfare and social welfare in economic, social and cultural fields is ensured."
