Master's Thesis on the Integration of BIM and 3D Printing Successfully Defended in the Department of Architecture

On 03.07.2026 at the Istanbul Gelişim University (İGÜ) F Block, Shadan Ali Attallah, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Gelişim University, has successfully defended her master's thesis titled "A Systematic Analysis of Application Challenges and Standards of BIM and 3D Printing Integration in Building Construction," prepared under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Semih Göksel Yıldırım (PhD). The thesis, evaluated by jury members Prof. Gül Yücel (PhD) and Assist. Prof. Erdal Yıldız (PhD), systematically examines the technical, organizational, and environmental barriers encountered in the integrated use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies—two critical pillars of the digital transformation in the construction industry—through the TOE framework. As a result of the research, an original five-layer reference model (BIDFW) was developed to prevent semantic data loss during data conversion processes and to transform the BIM model into a dynamic "digital twin" structure. We congratulate our student and wish her continued success in her academic and professional endeavors in the fields of building automation and digital manufacturing.
