Master's Thesis on the Integration of BIM and Structural Analysis Successfully Defended in the Department of Architecture
On July 8, 2026, at the Istanbul Gelişim University (İGÜ), Farah Fadhil Abbas Almayali, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Gelişim University, has successfully defended her master's thesis titled "Enhancing Integration Between Architectural Design and Structural Analysis Through Building Information Modeling" prepared under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Semih Göksel Yıldırım (PhD). The thesis, evaluated by jury members Assoc. Prof. Ahmad Reshad Noori (PhD) and Assoc. Prof. İlke Ciritci (PhD), seeks solutions to data loss and coordination errors between architectural and structural disciplines in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry. Within the scope of the research, the architectural model of a multi-story reinforced concrete structure created via Autodesk Revit was quantitatively compared with the structural analysis results obtained from Robot Structural Analysis and SAP2000 software. As a result of the study, the capability of Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based workflows to reduce the need for manual remodeling and to provide high engineering tolerances in interdisciplinary data transfer was investigated. We congratulate our student and wish her continued success in her academic and professional endeavors in the field of building technologies.
