Dear Students,
As part of the 2026 Spring–Summer Professional Training Seminars organized by the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers (IMO), a seminar titled “Damage Reduction Approaches for a Possible Istanbul Earthquake in Light of the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes” will be delivered by Prof. Alper İlki (ITU).
The seminar will discuss damage mitigation strategies for a potential Istanbul earthquake based on the lessons learned from the 1999 Marmara and 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Topics will include rapid screening studies, risk-based structural prioritization approaches, strengthening strategies, and their potential impacts on reducing casualties, economic losses, and social consequences.
