The article co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Ahmad Reshad NOORI on the dynamic analysis of functionally graded beams resting on Pasternak-type elastic foundations has been published in Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, a Q1-ranked journal according to Scopus CiteScore rankings.
The article titled “Comprehensive Dynamic Analysis of Pasternak-Supported FGM Beams in the Laplace Domain via the Complementary Functions Method,” co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Ahmad Reshad NOORI, a faculty member of the Civil Engineering Department at Istanbul Gelisim University, has been published in Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, a Q1-ranked journal according to Scopus CiteScore rankings.
The study, authored by Ahmad Reshad NOORI, Timuçin Alp ASLAN, Asena Pınar ÖZER and Beytullah TEMEL, presents a comprehensive investigation of the dynamic behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) beams resting on Pasternak-type elastic foundations. The research aims to evaluate the free and forced vibration responses of beams with varying material properties and foundation conditions using advanced mathematical and numerical methods.
The governing differential canonical equations were derived for the first time based on the minimum total energy principle within Timoshenko beam theory. The Complementary Functions Method (CFM) and Laplace transformation were employed to investigate undamped and damped transient dynamic responses. The Kelvin damping model was also incorporated for viscoelastic cases, while the dynamic behavior of beams was evaluated under step, impulsive and periodic loading conditions.
The findings demonstrated that increasing the length-to-height ratio raises natural frequencies, whereas higher material gradation indices lead to reduced frequencies. Furthermore, Winkler foundation parameters were found to have a more significant influence on natural frequencies than shear layer stiffness. The analyses also successfully captured the beating phenomenon under periodic loading with periods close to the structure's natural period.
The research provides a comprehensive computational approach for the dynamic analysis of functionally graded structural elements, contributing to advancements in soil-structure interaction, vibration analysis and structural engineering applications.
The Civil Engineering Department congratulates Assoc. Prof. Ahmad Reshad NOORI on this valuable scientific contribution and wishes him continued success in his academic studies.
