Department of Computer Engineering Hosted High School Students at the “Future Engineers and Architects Project Festival”
Istanbul Gelisim University successfully held the “Future Engineers and Architects Project Festival” for high school students in grades 9–12 on April 15, 2026. As part of the festival, high school students presented their projects before an academic jury, while the Department of Computer Engineering organized a workshop titled “Cybersecurity and Ethical Hacking: Network Security Practice.” Conducted by Asst. Prof. Gökçe Karaçayılmaz and Res. Asst. Mehmet Ali Barışkan, the workshop provided students with the opportunity to experience the university environment and gain practical knowledge in the field of cybersecurity.
The “Future Engineers and Architects Project Festival,” organized by Istanbul Gelisim University for high school students in grades 9–12, was successfully held on April 15, 2026. As part of the festival, high school students had the opportunity to present their projects before an academic jury, while also gaining firsthand experience of the university environment and various engineering disciplines.
Organized under the coordination of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Istanbul Gelisim University, the event served as an important platform that strengthened the interaction between the university and secondary education by enabling high school students to experience project development, presentation, and academic evaluation processes.
Within the scope of the festival, projects prepared in the fields of Computer and Software Engineering, Electrical-Electronics and Mechatronics, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Industrial Engineering were evaluated by jury members. The innovative ideas, solution-oriented approaches, and engineering perspectives demonstrated by the high school students were highly appreciated.
As the Department of Computer Engineering, we were pleased to take part in this meaningful organization, which encourages high school students to develop an early interest in engineering disciplines. Throughout the festival, participants had the opportunity to present their projects in an academic setting and become closely acquainted with our university’s educational and research infrastructure. In addition to contributing to the development of students’ scientific thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and presentation skills, the event also provided an important platform for strengthening university–high school collaboration.
Following the competition process, a workshop titled “Cybersecurity and Ethical Hacking: Network Security Application” was held for high school students. The workshop, organized on behalf of the Department of Computer Engineering, was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Karaçayılmaz and Res. Asst. Mehmet Ali Barışkan. During the workshop, students had the opportunity to learn fundamental concepts related to cybersecurity and experience practical network security applications.
Through this workshop, participants gained awareness of cybersecurity and ethical hacking, which are among the important areas of study within the discipline of Computer Engineering. Supported by hands-on activities, the event aimed to increase students’ interest in technology, security, network structures, and the protection of digital systems.
As the Department of Computer Engineering, we would like to thank our university for supporting future engineer candidates. We also congratulate all high school students who participated in the festival, their advising teachers, and the jury members who contributed to the event.
