World Architecture Day 2025 Celebrated at Istanbul Gelisim University Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture at Istanbul Gelisim University celebrated World Architecture Day 2025 with the theme “Design for Strength” on October 6th, 2025.
Held at the Main Architecture Studio on the 15th Floor of the Tower, the event brought together students, faculty members, and alumni to explore the many dimensions of strength in architecture.
The celebration began with an opening speech by the Head of Department, emphasizing how this year’s theme invites reflection on resilience, collective creativity, and the power of architecture to shape social life.
The program continued with “Traces & Memories,” a nostalgic presentation featuring selected images from past projects and studio moments. This segment offered both emotional and inspiring reflections on the department’s shared history. Later, participants engaged in Architecture Games and a short Sketch Challenge, which encouraged playful collaboration and creativity among students and instructors.
One of the highlights of the event was the Strength Atlas, a week-long participatory collective board. Throughout the week, participants completed the sentence “In architecture, strength is…” using words, sketches, and drawings — building a shared visual memory across the community. By the end of the week, the growing collage had become a symbol of collective creativity and solidarity within the faculty.
The program concluded with short “Inspiration Talks” by faculty members and a friendly closing gathering accompanied by music and refreshments.
The celebration strengthened the sense of community within IGU Architecture and reminded everyone that architecture is built not only through structures, but also through ideas, emotions, and collaboration.
