I have been accepted into your department. What do I need to do for registration?  

Congratulations, and we wish you continued success. Registration details are published on the IGU homepage or on the Student Affairs Department’s website.

 

The language of instruction in my department is Turkish. Can I still take preparatory classes?  

The preparatory education is optional and requires an additional fee. This will extend your education period by one year.

 

Where can I get my student ID card?  

Newly enrolled engineering students can collect their student ID cards from the Secretariat (Tower-19th Floor).

 

What should I do for course registration?

You can complete your course registration by logging into the Student Information System within the dates specified in the academic calendar.

Can you provide general information about Software Engineering?  

Software engineering is a branch of engineering that involves designing, developing, maintaining, and testing computer software. This field includes the development of system software, application software, and many other types of software. Software engineers generally work on software categorized as:

1. Application software,

2. System software,

3. Web applications,

4. Mobile applications.

The discipline of software engineering promotes a systematic, disciplined, and measurable approach at each stage of the software development process.

 

Can you provide information about the Software Engineering Department at Istanbul Gelişim University?

The IGU Software Engineering Department offers an education equipped with modern software development techniques and new technologies. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the department aims to prepare students for the industry through hands-on projects. The academic staff consists of experts in the field.

 

What are the job opportunities for graduates?  

Software engineering graduates have a wide range of career opportunities. They can pursue careers in fields such as software development, system analysis, data analytics, artificial intelligence, game design, web and mobile application development. Graduates also have opportunities to work in technology and software companies, startups, or establish their own companies, especially in major cities like Istanbul and Ankara. Additionally, software engineers have freelance work options, allowing them to participate in projects worldwide.

 

Is software engineering a suitable profession for women?

Software engineering is open to everyone, regardless of gender. Women actively work in various roles, including project management, software development, testing, and customer relationship management. The proportion of women in the technology sector is increasing, and many companies offer programs to encourage and support women software engineers.

 

Which campus is my department located at? 

The IGU Software Engineering Bachelor’s Program is conducted at the Gelişim Tower (Block J). The offices of the department’s academic staff are on the 18th floor, while the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Dean's Office is on the 19th floor.

 

Can I be exempted from courses I took at another university?  

Students enrolled through central placement can apply for course exemptions for courses they have passed at another higher education institution within the dates announced in the academic calendar during their first semester. Course exemption requests are evaluated by a commission within the scope of the IGU Exemption-Transfer Procedures and Horizontal Transfer Principles Directive.

Is there a mandatory internship in my department? 

The internship duration is set at 60 working days by our university's senate. Internship Process  for detailed information about internships.

 

Does my department have partner institutions for internships?  

Students are responsible for finding their own internship placements. However, our department's faculty members assist students who have difficulty finding an internship place.

 

How many credits are required to graduate?  

The required number of credits for graduation is 138. You can review the curriculum for more detailed and up-to-date information.

 

Are there attendance requirements for classes?  

Every student is required to attend classes, practical sessions, labs, projects, seminars, workshops, internships, final projects, and similar activities in the semester they are enrolled in. At our university, students must attend at least 70% of theoretical classes and 80% of practical and laboratory classes. I received a medical report during the exam period. Can I take a make-up exam? 

Students unable to attend mid-term exams due to health reasons are granted the right to take a make-up exam, provided they obtain a medical report from a fully equipped state hospital, a university hospital, or a family health center in the cities where university units are located. Do you have a summer school?

Yes, we offer summer education, which takes place within the dates announced in the academic calendar. Detailed information about summer school is available in the Summer Education Directive.

 

Can I do a Double Major (ÇAP) while studying Software Engineering at IGU?

Yes. Istanbul Gelişim University offers a double major program free of charge. Students with a GPA of 2.90 out of 4.00 and who are in the top 20% of their current undergraduate/associate degree program are eligible to apply for a second major program. Students who successfully complete the double major program and earn two bachelor’s degrees will be awarded two diplomas. Can I participate in the Erasmus+ program while studying Software Engineering at IGU? 

Yes. At Istanbul Gelişim University, students can participate in the Erasmus+ program and receive a monthly grant in the currency of the country they will be studying in. Since its establishment, a total of 15 students from the IGU Software Engineering Bachelor’s Program have benefited from the Erasmus+ program. Click here for detailed information about Erasmus.
