“Cities of the Future” Discussed at IGU: A Visionary Gathering at the Interdisciplinary Summit
Organized by the Architecture and Design Club at Istanbul Gelişim University, the “Cities of the Future Summit” brought together academics, industry professionals, and students to discuss sustainability, artificial intelligence, and innovative design. The summit, which examined the concepts of the city, architecture, and space from a multidimensional perspective, offered participants a valuable theoretical and practical experience.
Dean Prof. Bayram Ünal Emphasizes Visionary Education Supported by Events
Prof. Bayram Ünal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at İGÜ, who gave a speech at the event, expressed the university’s commitment to such initiatives with the following words:
“As İGÜ, we always support these kinds of activities. Bringing our students together with industry experts and their experiences is one of the most important components of a visionary education. Standing out rather than blending in is possible by participating in such events. By engaging with the industry, our students will prepare for the future with a stronger and more unique perspective.”

Interdisciplinary Interaction and Knowledge Exchange Featured Prominently at the Summit
The summit, organized under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Hilay Atalay, Advisor to the Architecture and Design Club and Director of the İGÜ CSYBUAM at Istanbul Gelişim University, was attended by Architecture and Design Club President Ada Alpaslan, Vice President İrem Yarım, and Board members Zahraa Taha, Azra Solar, Feride Akıncı, Gülçin Ataş, Baran Sefa Demir, Hilal Caba, Açelya Kılıç, Mervenur Acat, Nisa Ersungur, Sümeyye Usta, and Çağla Dağ.

During the panels and discussions held throughout the summit, participants had the opportunity to hear about current developments from leading experts, while also developing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative perspectives. The event also helped students expand their professional networks.
The Cities and Architecture of the Future Were Evaluated from Different Perspectives
In the first session of the summit, which consisted of six different sessions, Artificial Intelligence Expert İlker Ulubey addressed the transformative role of artificial intelligence in urban planning and architectural processes in his presentation titled “The Transformation of Artificial Intelligence.” He highlighted how data-driven decision-making processes are shaping the future of cities.

Architectural designer Seren Eker, in her talk titled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Facade Design,” used examples to explain the impact of artificial intelligence on facade designs that blend aesthetics and functionality.

In their presentation titled “Building the Future,” interior architect Melike Ekşi and architect Gonca Çetinkaya discussed how sustainable and innovative spaces can be designed using a user-centered approach.

In his talk titled “Liveable and Resilient Cities,” architect Abdulkadir Tekin emphasized the importance of cities that are disaster-resilient, environmentally friendly, and people-centered.
Later in the summit, Senior Architect Ece Doğan discussed flexible architectural approaches that adapt to changing lifestyles in her presentation titled “Dynamic Architecture and Spatial Belonging in the Cities of the Future.”
Architect Ayberk Aydın, in his talk titled “Cities of the Future,” shared his insights on the architectural vision of cities undergoing transformation alongside technological advancements.
At the conclusion of the sessions, Istanbul Gelişim University presented plaques to the speakers.
In addition to the informative sessions, the award-winning Kahoot competition held during the summit allowed participants to test their knowledge and have the chance to win surprise prizes in a fun, competitive environment.
