Asst. Prof. Mustafa Yurdabal APAK’s Article Has Been Published

The study by Asst. Prof. Mustafa Yurdabal APAK on the wildfire resilience of asphalt pavements has been published in the Q1-indexed journal Road Materials and Pavement Design.

The article titled “Asphalt Pavement Resilience Under Wildfire: An Experimental Observation and Numerical Analysis,” authored by Asst. Prof. Mustafa Yurdabal APAK from the Civil Engineering Department, has been published in the Q1-indexed journal Road Materials and Pavement Design.

The study investigates the effects of wildfire-induced temperatures on asphalt pavements through an integrated experimental and numerical approach. Conventional hot mix asphalt, boron-modified mixtures, and wood sawdust-modified mixtures were evaluated in terms of their mechanical performance, thermal conductivity, surface characteristics, and microstructural behavior under extreme heat conditions.

The findings demonstrate that wildfires can significantly damage the upper layers of asphalt pavements, while wood sawdust-modified asphalt mixtures exhibit improved post-fire performance. The study highlights the potential of sustainable and cost-effective materials for developing more resilient pavement systems capable of withstanding extreme environmental conditions.

The Civil Engineering Department congratulates Asst. Prof. Mustafa Yurdabal APAK on this valuable scientific achievement and wishes him continued success in his academic career.
