Notable Contribution of Our Academics to the International Symposium

The faculty members and research assistants of the Department of Computer Engineering have achieved a significant success in the international academic arena. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan GÖNEN from the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Deniz DAHMAN from the Department of Software Engineering, Dr. Gökçe KARACAYILMAZ from the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, together with research assistants Mehmet Ali BARIŞKAN, Ahmet Nail TAŞTAN, Hasan YILDIRIM, and team member Uğur KAYA, prepared their scientific study entitled “Machine Learning in RPL-based IoT Networks and Cyber Attack Detection with Deep Learning Approaches” to be presented at the 13th International Symposium on Intelligent Manufacturing and Service Systems (IMSS’25), one of the prestigious events in its field.

The study addresses the detection of cyber-attacks in Internet of Things (IoT)-based networks by integrating machine learning and deep learning methods, offering an innovative solution for the security of critical infrastructures. In particular, the experimental analyses conducted on the RPL protocol demonstrate that deep learning approaches achieve high accuracy in recognizing attack patterns. In this context, the study not only contributes to the academic literature but also sheds light on future IoT security applications. Prepared under the academic leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan GÖNEN with the contributions of the team members, this publication carries the department’s academic productivity to the international platform while also inspiring computer engineering students and young researchers. Presented at an international symposium, the study enhances the scientific visibility of the department and contributes to its stronger positioning within global research networks. We extend our congratulations to our academics.
