Istanbul Gelisim University participated in the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Deep Tech Talent Days held on November 12-13, 2024, delivering strong international visibility and drawing attention as the only university from Türkiye with an accepted project.

Representing our university at this prestigious event in Warsaw, Poland, were Vice-Rector for Research and Development Prof. Dr. Necmettin Maraşlı, Head of the Software Engineering Department Asst. Prof. Serkan Gönen, and International Exchange and Cooperation Coordinator Alisa Usubova. The event brought together visionaries, innovators, and pioneers from diverse backgrounds, united by their commitment to shaping the future of deep tech across Europe and beyond.

On the first day of the two-day EIT Deep Tech Skills Days Event, key panel discussions highlighted topics such as the role of artificial intelligence in shaping talent acquisition and training, and approaches aligned with industry demands for education and workforce development. A major highlight was the announcement of the results for the 2024 EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative Call for Proposals. Within this framework, the project led by Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), in partnership with the Proficiency Institute from Germany, was selected as one of the 15 projects supported by EIT Deep Tech out of 97 applications, securing a budget of €146,497.50. This provided us with an invaluable opportunity to showcase our project and university at an event that brought together hundreds of institutions from across Europe. Representing Türkiye as the sole university with an accepted project was a tremendous source of pride for IGU and marked an important step in solidifying our international achievements. This success, reinforcing our commitment to deep tech education and skill development, has strengthened our impact in Europe.

On the second day of the event, our university hosted a session titled “Navigating the Digital Maze: Cybersecurity Awareness for the Modern User.” Moderated by Prof. Dr. Necmettin Maraşlı and presented by Asst. Prof. Serkan Gönen, the session addressed critical issues such as enhancing cybersecurity awareness, understanding threats, countering social engineering attacks, and tackling cyberbullying. The discussion featured practical advice across academia, industry, and law enforcement, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity for modern users. This session underscored IGU’s global contributions and leadership role on a significant platform.

At the EIT Deep Tech Skills Days, IGU stood out as the only university from Türkiye with an accepted project, taking a major step toward strengthening international collaborations and disseminating knowledge in the field of deep tech across Europe. Participation in such events once again showcased IGU’s determination to enhance its strength and influence at an international level, both academically and in the industry.
